A Pastoral Message on the COVID19 Virus
Updated: Apr 10
Dear Holy Redeemer Community, The HRLC Council is taking the coronavirus global pandemic very seriously. As this situation intensifies and is often changing by the hour, now is the time to make clear decisions for the sake of our community’s health and well-being, as well as our neighbors near and far. We have considered medical wisdom, deliberated on the expertise from the World Health Organization and the Center for Disease Control, and have watched decisions being made in all regions of the United States in regard to cancelations and curtailing of activities to curb the spread of the virus.
With prayerful care and proactive caution and with the unanimous support of our council members, we have decided to suspend Sunday and Wednesday worship services as well as all activities at the church through at least April 1. Council will continue to monitor and meet to re-evaluate on March 29. In the meantime, we can care for the financial health of the congregation by mailing offerings or giving online.
We will soon send you an update on how we intend to remain connected as a congregation through this time of intentional “social distancing.” The church office will remain open during its regular hours (9:00 am to 1:00 pm) for personal prayer and conversations. I will be tending to pastoral emergencies should they arise. Please reach out if you have such a need or just want to talk. We understand that some may experience a wide range of feelings about this decision. At its core, this decision is deeply rooted in our faith in Christ Jesus and grounded in our utmost care and concern for our neighbor, particularly the most vulnerable among us. We will get through this time of uncertainty through the grace of God, the love that comes to us in Christ Jesus and the wise decisions we make for our health and well-being.
The words of the refrain from My Life Flows on in Endless Song (ELW 763) are lyrical encouragement in these times:
No storm can shake my inmost calm While to that Rock I’m clinging Since Christ is Lord of heaven and earth How can I keep from singing?
We will keep singing in the midst of this difficult time. Our prayers are with you and your loved ones. Please reach out if you need assistance.
Blessings in Christ Jesus,
Pastor Jayne and the HRLC Council
